The cover of my memory bay is really warm too. Also, the area where the wireless card is (left side, bottom) gets pretty hot when I've been using it a while. The left palm rest is kind of warm but it doesn't usually bother me either.

Memory and wireless cards do indeed get pretty hot. So does the graphics card on a lot of machines. CPU temps are the thing to watch. You might try downloading and using a CPU monitoring app such as fangui.

The dell mods are moderators, not technicians.

The above posters are correct - eithe way, if it melts (which it wont), its under warrenty and will be replaced.

Mine gets hot. Be sure to use the laptop on a solid surface. If it's on something soft, like a sofa or bed, no air can flow underneath it.

I've had the machine a year and it's been good. Don't worry.

I'm equally concerned about this problem with overheating.  After I've been using my new Inspiron 600m for a couple of hours the palm rest is uncomfortably warm to the touch...ie:  you don't want to rest your hand there.  The bottom of the laptop...which is on a solid surface desk...is burning hot...ie:  you can't leave your fingertip there for more than a second.  This can't be normal.

I was told by a dell tech to upgrade my bios to A12 to help the heating problem.  After reading the bios board, i'm not so sure that's a good idea.  any comments?
