new dell inspiron 530S, yahoo games will not play

I just bought a new computer today, dell inspiron 530s w. vista, and yahoo games won't play. I download them just as I always have on previously owned computers. When we go to play them, a black screen comes up like it is about to load, but then the desktop pops back up. It shows the little link window in the task bar, but clicking on it doesn't help. We've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. We tried downloading DirectX 10 and the updates for 9. We've tried right-clicking and playing as administrator (even though we're already logged in as admin), and we're tried several different games. We've run virus checks, no problems. And, we should certainly have enough processing speed and memory for these simple games. Help, please??
