os upgrade

Upgrade of OS to WIN 10 from WIN 7 on a new machine with Dell upgrade disk.

After using the disk to do the upgrade, the unit is in the Getting Ready position for many minutes and nothing is happening.  It went through the update process and seems to be doing nothing

What should I do??

If you chose to have Windows include the latest updates, this process can take quite some time -- up to or over an hour.

What computer model is it and be specific.  You need to let it go for some time, as was suggested.  Maybe a couple of hours but some things can extend the time needed.  Are you seeing any percentages?

For instance, if your hard drive was close to being full it would take a long time to archive the prior files.  If there was some device, such as Bluetooth, a driver may be giving it problems.  Even Intel states if you don't remove the Bluetooth drivers before doing the upgrade, it may not finish because the driver can't complete the install.

When you run out of patience or a reasonable time has passed, I suppose interrupting the process by shutting down may be required.  But once you do that, no telling what condition your system will be in.

Another possibility is the system tried the upgrade and it failed and is now reverting back to Win 7.  If it does revert to 7 there may be some log files you can check for info.

Do you know if the Upgrade media Dell gave you can be installed cleanly?  Are you wanting to keep items on the Win 7 install?  You have to keep in mind your status regarding backups and recovery media.
