plug-in mic not working :( .

Question

hi, i got a Vostro 1500 , windows vista .  the problem is that  last night i tried to talk on a mic . and it didnt work , I do not get a pop up when I plug in the external microphone. do i need a driver for it ?   thx for the help, C>S.

To activate the popup, go to Start/Control Panel/'Sigmatel' and see if there is an option to allow popups and check it. Afterwards select mic as the jack configuration and see if that helps.

Test with Sound Recorder or a similar recording program, not voip because there might be a different problem going on with Skype or voip.

thx for the answer.. i checked again .. now i can talk on msn but i cant talk on programs like ventrillo ..u know whta can be the problem ? i havent tried  other programs like skype etc ..   thx.
