problems closing my PC card slot

I hope someone can help me with this...I know it sounds kind of stupid, but I can't close the PC card slot on my Inspiron 2200 laptop. Everytime I push the card slot in, the button to eject it pushes out.  Then vice versa.  I don't want to slam it in, but how do I close this?  thank you to anyone who can help!

Push the button in to eject the card. With the card out, press the eject button in until it latches. Then insert the card or retainer back into the card slot Being Careful to not push the eject button as that will release the button catch.   pcgeek11
