strange charge/discharge cycle
Hello
I have noticed that the battery in my new computer (e4310) goes through a 60-hour charge/discharge cycle when it is connected to the power.
The battery charges to 100% and within 60 hours discharges to about 90% when the charge begins. If I unplug the power and plug it back,
the battery will start charging instantaneously and will reach 100%, but that does not interrupt the cycle. The next time, it will simply
discharge to 95% or even 97% (well till the 60 hours from the last cycle) and will charge again. This cycle is maintained
for the several weeks now since I got the system. Is this normal? What is going on?
Thanks

3+ years on, I am seeing similar behavior on a newish Inspiron 15 7000. I suspect this is a feature to reduce battery damage when the laptop is always plugged in, as it discharges roughly to where I set the "extended battery life" setting before charging back up again.
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be sufficient documentation or acknowledgement of such a feature. Confusingly, I borrowed a colleague's Inspiron and his battery sits perpetually at "75% (not charging)" when it is plugged in.

No, it a flaw I design.
Dell replaced battery twice while it was on warranty!
That is twice on 1 year. Considering that charge/discharge cycles which
”I used” were about 20, I conclude the behavior kills the battery.
The system is not designed to be plugged all the time!
The third battery I have I keep on a drawer and a dead battery in laptop.
When I need, I swap the batteries and charge...
This is a design problem in the charge controller!
About 75% you mention, either battery is damaged or the charger is broken.
