synaptics trackpad- how to adjust sensitivity?

I bought an Inspiron 15 (N5050) on ebay, with Windows 7. has a synaptics ps/2 compatible trackpad installed, with version 17.0.2.4 of the drivers installed. The touchpad is overly sensitive- basically since I rest my palm on the left side, the cursor moves around all the time whenever I lean that way or use my left hand. I've looked at the "mouse properties->device settings" button but there is no entry for sensitivity just "overview' and "buttons." When I went to the Dell support site, I found that Alps touchpad were available for this model (not synaptics). Any ideas on how to adjust the sensitivity? Is it worth going back to an older driver or something like that? Thanks

Hi mc797,

We apologize for the inconvenience caused, the computer’s shipped with the Alps touchpad and hence you can try installing the same from the Dell’s support website. Just before that please try checking the sensitivity or erratic movement outside the operating system in the Safe mode or while running the Diagnostics and see if that works fine.

Please click on the below link to download the driver, software.

Please remove the Snaptics software from the Control Panel, Programs and Features, restart the computer and on the website type the Service tag, under Drivers and downloads, select the operating system and install the software from Mouse, Keyboard & Input devices.

Let us know if this helps.
