wake up by mouse/keyboard
Hi,
I have a new Dell Inspirion N5110 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium installed. Is it possible to wake up the computer with mouse or keyboard? Now this can be done only with the power button.

I have found an option in BIOS, which was turned off by default. Now it works.

You can only wake the screen with a key press or mouse press. Hibernation and Hybrid Sleep require a brief press of the Power Button to wake the computer. Try a key press first and if that doesn't work it means the computer is hibernating, so you need to press the power button. Read more about hibernation in Windows Help & Support. You can make changes to the power settings in Power Options, Advanced Settings for your power scheme.

After I selected "Sleep" from the Start Menu, waking up works only with Power button. Same for the automatic sleep.

CSOSZ77,
I was on the phone for 3 hours this morning with Dell tech support trying to get my brand new Inspiron N5110 to wake up from sleep mode with the touchpad, USB keypad or the USB mouse. They finally gave up and said it's a "system limitation." The tech support person, Cherry, was very patient and thorough. She installed all new drivers and had me look for a "wakeup keyboard" option in the BIOS settings. We couldn't find that option in BIOS, but we did find the "USB Wake Support" option, and we enableed. it. Nohing worked.
What is the exact wording for the wakeup option you found in BIOS?
Can you absolutely confirm that your Inspiron N5110 does now allow you to wakeup from sleep with the touchpad? How about with a USB device? If you can confirm this, then I think Dell will need to retract their resolution of "system limitation."
FYI: I really don't want to re-image my hard drive because I have spent about 50 hours setting up my new computer. But I am sure that I had this wakeup problem right from the first time I tried to wake up from the sleep mode, so I don't think going back to the factory settings will help me anyway.
Thanks,
John

I have enabled the "USB Wake Support" option. This works only when laptop runs from the external power supply.
Now the wakeup works from my external USB mouse, but not from the touchpad.

Waking up from my external USB mouse (and not the touchpad) would be perfectly acceptable. Unfortunately, my "USB Wake Suppot" BIOS option is now enabled, I am running from the external power supply, and neither my USB mouse nor my touchpad will generate a wake up.
Did you have to do anything else other than turning the BIOS setting to enabled? Like install a driver for your USB mouse (I don't recall having to do a manual mouse driver installation).
Any other ideas?
thanks,
John

I just enabled this option in BIOS.
You can wake up the laptop by pression the power button also.
