Thanks! That whole big thing? Do you think I can do it myself if I carefully start taking things apart, or would it be best to have someone else do it?

Yes, the touchpad is part of the palmrest, so the entire part needs to be replaced.

 

Here's what is involved, so you can decide whether to undertake the repair.

Oh my, I suppose I could do that but I think I'd need a weekend :smileysurprised: Thanks for the info - I'll look it over when the part arrives and decide if I want to risk it. Very detailed instructions, which is a good thing.

Replacing the palmrest isn't too terribly difficult. As long as you're careful, you should be fine.

Parts-people seems to be out of stock, so you might want to check Ebay for it. The part # is NG338. Make sure that you get one in good condition, and good luck!

wow, so many little screws, so many parts, I can't believe I actually installed the part and am back up running again. Thanks for the helpful links and the encouragement.
