xps 15 L521x hard drive replacement

I need to replacement my hard drive on my dell xps 15 L521x. I do not care about the files that are currently on it, but was wondering once I replace it will I need to reimage the whole computer, install a new windows operating system, or will it run perfectly once a new one is put in its place?

Thanks

If you haven't created any backups then the answer is yes. You'll have to reinstall windows. What version of windows is on the system ? Windows 10

Hi BACH7159,

If you have activated Win 10 earlier, then you could download the OS from Microsoft site and install it on the HDD.

If you order a replacement HDD with the OS installed, then you would only need fit the HDD onto the system and it will boot to the installed OS partition and you would just need to setup your Microsoft account on it.

Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.

Let us know if you have any other queries.

Yes you should clean install Windows 10 RS2 directly on the new HDD. To do this you'll need to make a Bootable USB for a UEFI BIOS. Then boot from it Ensuring you utilise a UEFI Boot with Secure boot Enabled. See here for details:

For that model and Windows 10 Synaptics driver version 19.0.15.2 is reported to work the best. See here for details:
