BIOS A09 install issues

Hello, I've recently been having compatibility issues and unexplained 'blue screen of death' randomly while running various programs, the the occasional prompt to check BIOS version... so I decided to try and update my BIOS A08 to A09, without success.

Specs: Alienware M15x, NVIDIA GTX M260, Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  All Drives are updated, the only update that I can do at this point is BIOS, to my knowledge.

The two threads I found on the topic: [View:en.community.dell.com/.../19367764:550:0]

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

The link/instructions for the BIOS version:

-D/L and saved the A09 .exe to a Flash Drive, and booted to that.  Said disk read error, press any key to re-boot.

-Saved to DVD-Rom disk to boot new BIOS from that, goes straight to windows start-up.

-Started in safe-mode to try and boot from DOS (after reading that it worked from Asus forums that it worked).  Also not working.

It's not giving me the promt to start DOS after attempting to read the flash, so did I save the wrong .exe?... There are four .exe files from the iso so I don't know if i have the wrong files on the disk/drive, I simply saved the entire file.

Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks-

What is happening?

The BIOS update A09 file cannot be flashed in Windows on the Alienware™ M15x

Reason

Neither the .exe (R293649.exe) file nor the .iso file (M15xA09.iso) helps to flash the BIOS. The.exe file cannot be opened at all and when using the bootable CD (created via the .iso file), the installation stops at “EC will automatically update” and a command line is displayed. At that moment you can try to type the following Command Line: "dflash EC_w670.118" but most of the times it does not run.

Solution

  1. Ensure that a 150 Watt AC Adapter is plugged into the system.
  2. Save the A09 BIOS (.iso file) and burn it to a DVD or CD.
  3. Power up the M15X system and press F12 to change boot sequence to USB key. USB Boot sequence after selecting to boot from a disk?... T
  4. At the DOS prompt where the BIOS directory is, type "FA" and press enter.  DOS doesn't open, it goes directly to windows start-up.  "FA" is an unrecognizable command.
  5. The command then will update system BIOS to version A09.
