Battery Indicator Inspiron 6400

Hi, I recently noticed that my battery indicator (most right one of the 3 power lights) is flashing three times orange, then once green. I've found on this site that that means it can't charge cause it's too hot. So I turned my laptop off for the night, unplugged and let it cool down, but it is still flashing, when its plugged in and when running on battery. I've done everything I can think of, I've removed and put the battery back in, checked it against the battery recall, checked the charge, but nothing works. I bought my laptop in august, so I doubt that the battery needs replacing!
Any Ideas??
Thanks,
*EQL*

Call Dell and have the battery replaced under warranty. It is faulty.

Yep agree faulty battery. I think the battery is covered for the first year. Contact Dell for a replacement.

A light that flashed alternatly green and orange means it'S too hot. A light that flashes quickly orange 3 times and one time green means the battery is busted. You can also check your battery's health with the small push button on it. Press and hold for 3-4 seconds. Each green light symbolises battery decay, the more lights are on, the more decay the battery sustained. My battery just went dead on my laptop as well... the thing is 13 months old... just out of it'S warranty... this blows. I've never had a laptop battery die so fast. Lose it's charge YES..but DIE..never....

 Using a Battery

Check the Battery Charge

To check the battery charge, press and release the status button on the battery charge gauge to illuminate

the charge-level lights. Each light represents approximately 20 percent of the total battery charge. For

example, if four of the lights are on, the battery has 80 percent of its charge remaining. If no lights

appear, the battery has no charge.

Check the Battery Health

To check the battery health using the charge gauge, press and hold the status button on the battery

charge gauge for at least 3 seconds. If no lights appear, the battery is in good condition, and more than

80 percent of its original charge capacity remains. Each light represents incremental degradation. If five

lights appear, less than 60 percent of the charge capacity remains, and you should consider replacing the

battery. See "Specifications" on page 133 for more information about the battery operating time.
