Sorry to burst your bubble but all the monitor drivers for all Dell laptops are shipped with Windows.  No additional monitor drivers are ever required.  They will appear in device manager as "Generic Flat panel" or "Generic Display" or "Laptop Display", etc.  As you have allready stated the monitor drivers on Dell's download page are for externally connected monitors only.

What specific problem with your monitor are you having?

Thanks for the reply Steve.

First I want to say that the 'windows' drivers for the laptop display's don't always work correctly. This Dell Latitude that I was frustrated with was supposed to only support up to 800x600. Yet, when I used the 'windows' drivers for a laptop display at 800x600, I had blank lines on the right/left sides of the display. So when I used the 1024x768 'windows' drivers, it got rid of the blank lines, but then I was exceeding the specifications of the display according to the Dell support site. Not to mention, I wasn't using any of the drivers listed on the Dell support site for this Latitude. So what is the point of listing the incorrect drivers on the support site for this specific hardware?

The problem is that the owner of this laptop may not want dinky little icons on there desktop. This is what happened to this display at 1024x768. [The icons were quite small] Yet, under any attempt at setting it to 800x600, I would get the blank lines at the sides. So....that means that the 'windows drivers' did not work the way that one would expect.

Back to my original question, what are the proper drivers for this display to obtain 800x600 with full use of the laptop display. Dell says that the maximum resolution for this display are 800x600, so where are the drivers that work? There were 20 different drivers to choose from on the Dell support site, and I know darn well, that most (if not ALL) of them were not the correct drivers. So all these people telling helpless newbies/non-techies, to go and just look at the Dell support site for there specific xpress-service-code. Then to get the drivers listed, is VERY agravating. B/c when you do exactly that, you get 20 drivers that are NOT the correct drivers. That is why I was so frustrated. Sorry for the level of frustration.

You seem to have the same problem as I do (see "Low resolution after undocking sec. monitor), but the opposite... My Dell Latitude is also supposed to support up to 800x600 but I know that I had 1024x768 (before I mistakingly undocked it before turning off the computer) and that it looked so much better with 1024x768. If I use 1024x768 the picture gets too big for the screen. I've tried to uninstall the monitor driver as suggested but that didn't work. Please let me know if you find an answer to the resolution mystery!
