Checking Serial Number

Hi does anyone know how to check whether a serial number is valid or not, as i'm considering to buy a Dell notebook from a auction site? Could you also post a link to the site please.

Goes by service tag or express service code, not serial number. Put the tag into support.dell.com and it will tell you if its valid--if all else fails, call tech support and ask if its stolen or anything.
