Pressed F2 on boot up and cant see any mention of the adaptor ? scrolled through the various pages but nothing seen, just removed new battery while power lead was in and replaced with old battery and charging light comes on,swap back to new battery and no light,oh and it's a replacement battery but not from dell if that helps
just sent him a message detailing the problem, I'll let you know, wifes got the same laptop and put her battery in and the charging light comes on,so i know the light works, the power leads obviously ok as it'll run the laptop without a battery in.Ian.
Just as a matter of interest,if you google Dell inspiron 1501 battery, nearly all the results are 6 cell batteries, this new one is a nine cell sold as an upgrade ? could it be this thats the problem does anyone think ?? .. Ian.
vendor exchanged the battery for me but still the same, came on this site and downloaded the diagnostic tool to run a check,it downloads but doesnt do anything at all, just sits there with the little circle on the dell page turning but nothing happening viewing task manager ? have been told to download a possible bios flash whatever that is,enter service tag and it shows my computer but again, when you click to check for any updates nothing happens,I can find no mention of the battery or adapter when pressing F2 on start up as advised above or no mention of a bios update/flash on here, anyone any ideas because i really dont like running on the power all the time im on, as before if i put the old battery I've had for 3 years (3rd party battery) the charge light comes on but obviously this battery is goosed and wont hold any charge, I'm quickly loosing the will to live...Ian
just run a diagnostic check using the system tree to check on the battery etc
Battery came up ok :emotion-21:
battery communication came up ok:emotion-21:
adapter test came up with error 3600:0649 invalid AC Adapter ( its the original dell adapter supplied on purchase)?? :emotion-6: Im baffled by this because with the old battery in the charge light comes on,with the new battery in which was in for the test the charge light doesnt work, run a bios update (dated 2007 ?) but still no difference, and i still can find no mention of the adapter by pressing F2 and going through the various pages,am I missing something here please ?
I'm assuming that the adapter is ok as the charge light works with the old battery in but not with either of the 2 replacements ive tried even though both replacements passed the diagnostic checks.looks like I'm doomed to be plugged in all the time :-(
thank you so much for the reply, this will explain why it charges with the old battery even though the battery's goosed, just kept getting told on various forums that the adaptor was faulty which didnt make sense when the charge light will come on with old battery installed, surprised it doesnt explain you need a bigger charger on the site where the battery came from,it just said it was an upgrade giving you more battery time,I live and learn and appreciate the answer, thanks so much...Ian

Is the replacement a Dell battery, or a third party unit? Does the BIOS sense the AC adapter or is it listed as "unknown"?
F2 at powerup to check.

Sounds like a bad battery - see if the vendor will replace it.

You need a higher power charger for the 9 cell battery. The 90 watt unit is the minimum although the 140 may work better.
