Dell Inspiron 1525 Graphic integrated Graphics

Hi,

Just bought an Inspiron 1525 delivered yesterday, I'm happy with the laptop but sadly the X3100 isn't up to much, i was wondering if someone could tell me if the motherboard has got a slot avaliable to upgrade graphic's in the future. I have tried looking on the internet but can't seem to find out anything about this. The motherboard is 0U990C.

Thanks

Sharon

No, it doesn't.  It cannot be upgraded.

You cannot, BUT, the X3100 happens to be in a special chipset family that can be completely reprogamed from the ground up by a simple driver. The latest drivers (15.9) enable shader support making Far Cry and Battlefield 2 able to run (on low settings, of course) and also enables DirectX 10. According to the sourced Wiki on it, the core speed is 333 MHz and can gobble up to 384 MB of memory. This is pretty comparable to AGP cards, but the bus speed is slower since it has to leech from your system memory.

Update your BIOS to at least A09. That's important otherwise you run into problems with v15.9 drivers.

v15.9 drivers won't install right any, but his guide may help you:

There is one tweak that results in quite a reasonalbe performance gain in oder games:

As 2wiSteD said: Yes, it supports DX10. But it's basically useless given the performance it has (= very low).

It's just a compatibility thing: Windows Vista Premium Certification changed in June 2008 and requires DX10 compatibility from now on.

I installed the latest drivers from Intel; had to download it in .zip format as the .exe won't work on my Dell Laptop as it tells me to contact the system manufacturer, however, when Window starts I get some dialog boxes asking me if I want to run some .exe files- all graphics card related start-up items, so I uninstalled it as I found it annoying.

Anyone know how to stop those from appearing?

I have seen somebody reporting that before:

I guess these files are : hkcmd, igfxtray, igfxpers

Sorry I don't how to get rid of it, but it looks like some UAC problem. I've got UAC enabled and don't see those. During installation of drivers I use an account that has administrator rights (but I still have to confirm certain operations).
