Dell Inspiron N5110 screen sometimes gets vertical lines while in use why?

Can anybody please help me with this issue. What hardware do I need to change?

Hi jnava05,

Try connecting an external monitor and see if it works, Try running an LCD built in self test. Press and hold the D key on the keyboard while pressing the power button, then release both at the same time. This will initiate A grey screen, then Red, then Blue, then Green then White, to allow you to inspect the entire LCD for color purity on each screen and to better identify defect such as cracks in the LCD or stuck pixels that may not be apparent in a normal viewing mode. Reply with your findings.

Thank you for answering.

I have tried the LCD built in self test and everything comes out okay. No errors. I was thinking that maybe my BIOS is out of date.. I might need to update my drives.

I have the same problem with my computer. By the looks of these forums, I should have followed my first mind and replaced my little netbook that went kaput after five years with another Acer. Dell's junk always craps out right after warranty!

So, what is the fix for this? What is the worse case scenario in this situation? What part is crapping out and can it be fixed? My BIOS is up to date. I can't do the external monitor test and the LCD test you suggested just causes my computer to hibernate. I'm still  paying on this machine! I don't need an expensive brick on my hands!
