Dell Mini Inspiron 1018
I purchased this new about 2 weeks ago, i tried to upgrade the memory and have issues with the 2gb ram chips, original works. Techincal service is awful, I have spent a day and half working on the memory issue and touch pad not working, tried to get an exchange but everywhere i go i get a run around. I have had excellent service in the past with Dell, what happended and what can I do to get this resolved?

Where did you purchase the 2G module?

I also purchased this model (1018) and ordered a 2GB memory module at time of order from DELL. Installed the 2GB memory which results in no video. System appear to halt during POST. System operates normally once 1GB memory is reinstalled. Technical service is absolutely useless. After much debate with support agent, replacement memory module was shipped out.
Actions taken:
Flashed BIOS from A01 to A02 - issue persists
Replacement Memory Module installed - issue persists
Exchange Inspiron laptop received - issue persists
DELL does not seem to have a solution for this issue.

Does Dell even address the problem? It would appear to me that the inspiron 1018 is a defective product. Wish I had known before I purchased.

The Dell-recommended 2Gb module is incompatible with the Inspiron 1018. Two modules that do work are the Samsung 2GB 1Rx8 PC3 and the Corsair 2GB CM3X2GSD1066 G. Other brands may work, but I haven't cross referenced them. In most cases there is no video with the Dell upgrade module so it's hard to know exactly what other components are affected.
