Dell Precision 7510 Trackpad Issues - Xeon Processor

I just recieved the 7510 about 2 weeks ago and have been getting increasingly annoyed with the trackpad which seems to  have issues. The trackpad never seems to stop working completely, but it seems to get stuck for a second pause or stutter frequently. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Hello everyone,

Had the same problem on my new 7510. None of suggested methods helped so I assumed that the problem is with drivers for touchpad. When I uninstalled drivers and installed "universal" drivers (the one that Windows finds automatically), touchpad worked fine, of course without gestures.

Hope that Dell will fix this soon.

It is good that the problem is not in hardware. Dell driver and software for managing touchpad and pointstick have problem with working with both at the same time. If You disable Pointstick in Dell Touchpad options, the Touchpad will work perfectly. Other solution is to remove Dell Touchpad Driver and software and let Windows install "generic" touchpad driver. Touchpad and Pointstick will work fine, but You will not be able to use Gestures and other features connected with that.

Hope this helps!

I have not had issues with mine but I think I read somewhere "go to control panel -> mouse and turn off gesture support"

Rgds.

I'm having the exact same problems. Disabling gestures does not help.

Dell support is having me send the laptop to a service depot so they can figure out what the problem is. I doubt it's hardware related so I don't think it will do much good...

There are three of us here at my work who all have this issue with our new Dell Precision 7510. We are all running Windows 10. It seems to happen more frequently when the processor is multi tasking or under a medium work load (running a game, compiling code, etc). A simple test to see if this is an issue for your laptop is to type on the keyboard while using the trackpad. If the trackpad does not work at all while typing then you have the issue. An external mouse or trackpad will pass this test so it does seem to be specific to the trackpad. Anyone know of a fix?

Are you using Chrome? Can you try running without it for a while and see if the problem happens? Although I use Chrome normally I have noticed the scrolling problems only happen when it's running.

I think I have found a workaround for this.

TL;DR: Go into BIOS settings and disable switchable graphics to force the use of the onboard video card (instead of the CPU integrated graphics processor)

Here's how I (think) I tracked down the problem:

I downloaded TechPowerUp GPU-Z to monitor the GPU utilization while the mouse problem was happening. I noticed when I ran Chrome the GPU memory clock would go to maximum. While the memory clock was maxed, the touchpad mouse would get choppy, jump around etc... This led me to believe that the source of the problem was the integrated GPU.

After disabling switchable graphics, I have been running chrome (including viewing full screen 4k60fps video) without any mouse problems at all. I have also noticed that the GPU memory clock hasn't 'maxed out' - even while watching video and running a graphics intensive application.

I had the same problem, eventually had to return my laptop because they didn't find the issue. Did you have any luck ?

This problem actually is in hardware.  See en.community.dell.com/.../20008073 for details.  I've been trying to get Dell Engineering to take this seriously, but they are aren't ... in part because they believe I'm the only user seeing this problem.

If anyone is still experiencing this issue, please send me a Private Message, so I can help you get your complaint directed to the appropriate people.

Just to follow up: I've discovered that my issue is specifically related to the fingerprint reader ribbon cable.  Details are in en.community.dell.com/.../20008073
