I have a Dell Studio 1558 that came with Windows 7 factory installed. I upgraded for free to Windows 8 back when it came out directly from Windows, then to 8.1 (I believe this was two steps but perhaps it was only a 1-step upgrade). This was at least a couple years ago. Last Sunday my screen flickered and I got the "AMD display driver stopped responding but has recovered" message, but it never DID recover and eventually the computer shut down. Since then, I've only been able to use my computer for at most 10 minutes before the screen gets the blurry "fuzz" and eventually the screen is unreadable then black. I've had two Dell people tell me I have to reinstall Windows 7 since Dell never allowed the Studio 1558 to be upgraded to Windows 8 so it was MY FAULT for not checking with Dell first (do I have to check with Dell before I install every program on my computer???). Of course a reinstall of WIndows 7 will wipe out everything I have on my hard drive. Any other solution? It appears it is just missing the right driver. Why wouldn't Dell make their computer upgradable or provide the right driver? Any solutions for this?

If it's driver issue then fine. You can go back to Windows 7. But if it's hardware issue, then you should be prepared.
As in my case, after 3yr and 3 months of use; the motherboard/graphics died. Before that, 2~3 months prior, my laptop sometimes had experienced display issues like noise in display etc, but only for 2~3 seconds.

I had a Graphics Card problem, which I solved a few days ago! If anyone has a similar issue, post on this thread so I can help you. :emotion-11:
