I've just ordered a dell studio 17 from the outlet. They cannot say whether the model has bluetooth or not (strange since it must have a service code).

if I wanted to retro-fit the BT module, where do I get it from (UK) and ~how much. Am guessing it's very possible and ~£30? Am I wrong?

Contacted Dell Sales who said they don't stock it???

It's absolutely ridiculous that Dell couldn't tell you whether the Studio 17 has a bluetooth module by default or not :emotion-3:

But did you not check the specs - +/or read a few reviews, before you ordered it?

The fact there are bluetooth drivers for a available in the Studio 17 downloads section, would suggest they do have a bluetooth card?

But this review by IT Reviews confirms that it does have bluetooth:  “To connect to the outside world there is 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet...” :emotion-5:

If you where to configure a studio 1735 as new on Dell's site you would see that bluetooth is an add-on option. Ergo, it is not included by default. And rightly so: you can add the 370 mini-card module but with a little digging at the accessories store you will see that a more robust 410 module is available. Both are Bluetooth 2.1. Both are mini-cards, meaning they snap into the easily accessed WPAN slot. Check the service manual --> Communication Cards --> Wireless Mini-cards

Not sure how it works in the UK and too lazy to check, but in the US all Outlet Store items have a "details" link that reveals the extras, like FSB speed and whether the system includes items like a fingerprint reader, backlit keyboard, and . . . bluetooth module. If you didn't check that when ordering then shame on you. You'd need to provide Dell with the system ID as found on the Outlet Store for them to pull up that information, but I assume you no longer have it nor, apparently, do they have it linked with your order. Shame on them. The service tag will allow you to access the system information details of your laptop, but good luck making any sense of that! Probably best to just check the WPAN slot on your rig :-)

I have the 370 module and ordered it after market from Dell. While you're there, get the second hard drive carrier for your machine for less than $15 complete: cage, screws, interposer. Don't bother with eBay or Amazon, this is one of those occassions where you are better served (price, quality) by dealing directly with the original vendor. Start by running the Dell System Analyzer, good luck.
