Dell Vostro 3550 Webcam NOT working.

Hello to everybody.

Sorry for my english. I´m Hungarian but I´m living in Germany.

I have a same problem with a webcam in a Dell Vostro 3550. I bought this laptop about 2 mounths ago in "conrad.de". The first time the cam was worked correctly but with a German windows. But impossible to change normally to my language without a original CD install. I have a Win7Prof64Bit Dell version DVD of the operating system. I installed and also the driver disks and everything. But a cam is not working. I try every solution with about 5 install. First all updates, and drivers, and drivers from the website, cd, first drivers and after this update. The Dell support by phone, only told for me one thing. If it is possible I need to check my webcam type with Everest and after this I need to find a driver for the current cam type. The windows basic driver absolute not working with my cam. But i not found more information about my cam in everest. "USB video device" or something like that. No more. I fighting with this problem about 3 weeks ago but day by day I´m more and more angry because I can´t believe this trouble with a cam. This is only a webcam please.... Brrrr. Sorry :) But this is too much for me. But no driver on the website with my service tag and no more info about this. And in the forum I also found only some basic todo but nothing helped for me. I have about 10000€ DELL branded laptop, desktop, LCD monitor etc., in my little company and I never have a bigger problem than some hours. But my own "home" laptop not working.

If somebody know the solution I like to pay for this and everything but this webcam is my connect with my daughter and my parents in Hungary and I want to use. I not like to change this laptop type because I like so.

Thank you very much, and sorry again for my english.

DElekHU,

When you installed the operating system, did you install the notebook system utility and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Start with the Notebook system utility and the chipset drivers and install the drivers in order. Things should start working. Normally you could download these from Dell's website at Drivers & Downloads but Dell is currently working on the website. You should have a drivers disk that came with your computer.

Tomi,

Do you have Dell Webcam Central installed?

If yes, is it set for capture mode?

Does your Vostro have anything like Fast Access Facial Recognition software or similar program, where you use it to log in to your computer?

Did you try the troubleshooting article? Using and Troubleshooting the Dell Webcam and Dell Webcam Central Software

Dear Rick!

Now I tryed again 2 times. First totally like a Dell correct order in your link. Second is only Windows reinstall, just dell system util, and drivers, and updates. Same same same.

But I not understand why we are wait  difference. Because the webcam driver is originally Microsoft driver. And this driver is ready just after the first restart. After this all other drivers is nothing about a webcam. No driver in the world for this Webcam. And I also try in the last minutes to read the cam  identity. i dont know what is my cam brand. Microsoft, Creative etc.

Driver info:
Date: 2006.06.21.
Version: 6.1.7600.16543

I never look other driver.

At this moment my Windows is totally original without any trash. Clean and everything. But my cam LED only turn on in the skype, but no more.

Thanks everything, Tomi.
