Dell XPS L502X - Battery Issues

Question

Hi,Shortly after my warranty ran out - Murphy's Law, right? - I began experiencing problems with my battery (9-cell extended). I've noticed I'm not the only one, and I'm just wondering how many other XPS users have had battery issues and what they were.What was the fix, if any?  ((If there's a lot of us, why isn't this being addressed by Dell? - - I've called and they insist they've never heard of the issue, yet I can find it in the forums...)) ----------------------- Multiple times it would tell me that I was plugged in, but not charging, orThe AC adapter could not be determined and suggested I use a Dell one (which I was!), orit would hang itself if I was trying to resume system off battery power only........and sometimes it would just randomly give me a flashing orange light if I let it go to sleep *even while plugged in*I took the battery out, made sure all the contacts were clear of debris.  Reseated it.Ran diagnostics.  Reinstalled drivers and BIOS in case there was any connection to the problem.Nothing worked.  And yes, the battery charge/health bar on the battery itself was saying it was still good to go!The only thing that I found to even remotely work was to plug in the AC and reboot the whole system while it was attached to AC power, then it would recognize and charge.  Only then could I unplug and return to battery power only.  Only to repeat the whole process once I needed to return to AC power...because suddenly it didn't recognize its own affiliated products!  Ugh.However, this was a huge drag, and eventually I just stole my fiancé's battery out of his no-longer-used XPS.Haven't had a problem since.  However, I don't know if I will eventually... It's only been 2 months with it in.Would this strictly have been a battery issue then?  Perhaps my battery was defective? (I had my XPS since November, but didn't really start to use it until I got rid of my Inspiron in the early spring...so the battery hadn't even been in use for 1 year by the time it began to 'fail'.  Whereas my Inspiron lasted years before needing replacement...and is still plugging away on its 2nd battery since its 2007 birth.) It is unfortunate that the computer is not getting charged. Request you to refer the below link and follow the steps mentioned in it:

You may also try connecting a known good AC Adaptor and check if it works.

Thanks for the link, but even as stated, I've tried all that the link offers to no avail...

My battery is straight from Dell, it came with the laptop. When I check the battery health, as I stated it is fine. Computer tells me it is operating normally. When I run the diagnostic for battery that Dell offers...it tells me the battery is fine.

Clearly it is not.

The only solution I have been able to find was to use a different 9-cell XPS L502X battery (from Dell).

I own 2 AC adapters, both from Dell, and both in good working condition.

At this point I can only assume my battery is defective.

Hi Jayester,

Request you to check in BIOS (F2 at startup), if both the AC Adaptors get recognized (as 65W/90W) or shows as unknown. If all the AC Adaptors shows unknown then the motherboard has failed and needs to be replaced.
