Docking Station/Computer Bay Problem

When I dock to my PD01X docking station, my computer does not recognize the computer bay drive.  It does recognize the drive installed in the docking station bay.  If I boot up undocked, the computer bay recognizes the computer bay drive, and then if I dock without turning it off, it will continue to recognize the computer bay drive and then also recognize the docking station bay drive.

How can I make it recognize both bays aftera cold dock and then a boot up?

Thanks,

""I'm not sure what a "PD01X" is (Dell refers to them by the names available here:
http://support.dell.com/support/systemsinfo/documentation.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~cat=1&~subcat=4""

This docking station is the large unit with the built-in AC power supply and an additional module bay, the modeol PD01x as opposed to the smaller port replicator.

-but it might help to know:

-Which notebook model you're talking about

D500 Latitude

-Which operating system is installed

Windows XP Home Edition

-Whether you have the most recent BIOS version for you particular notebook installed (if not, you should)

Yes, Ver. A09, checked it today for updates.

-Depending on the operating system involved, whether or not you've installed the appropriate doscking/PR software.

Can't find any applicable software per the manual or the Dell website

Are you referring to the "Dell D/Dock Expansion Station?"  See
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/acc/despestn/en/index.htm
If so, have you followed the instructions  regarding "Before You Dock for the First Time"  and "Docking Your Computer?"  (see above link for specifics)  Also, have you checked for updated D/Dock software, via the Downloads link for same?  Note that if you're trying to use an older C/Dock station (from the C series Latitudes), it more than likely won't work on a D model.

Yes, I am.

Yes, I did.

A "C" dock station will not even mechanically attach to a "D" model Latitude.

The key, I think to understanding my problem is that the docking station seems to work normally if I have the computer running and the computer bay drive in and recognized.  THen I can dock and the computer will recognize both the "on-board" drove as well as the drive located in the docking station.  If I do a "cold" dock and boot up. per the manual, the pc will not recognize the drive that is located in the pc bay.

BTW, as far as I can find, there is no separate docking station software.  If anyone knows of any, I love to know, but none is referenced in the manual either.
