E1705 Video Memory Parity Error

Question

I have an Inspiron E1705 purchased in May, 2006.  To date it has run flawlessly.  Last week while watching a video down load, the screen filled with columns of horizontal lines.   Error message said I have a parity error.  I ran diagnostics and the Video Memory Test came up with an error code 5300:0119, system expected to read a specific memory address but sent to another. After reading other forum entries, this is a problem with the E1705 and other Dell's. Questions: Is the video memory in the video card or in shared memory?  I tried pulling one memory card out and running on one card and visa versa and I still get the error.  So I think the video memory is in the video card. If the parity error resides on the video board (256MB NVIDA GeForce Go 7800) is it even worth replacing?  I downloaded the service manual and the board can be replaced without replacing the mother board but it looks like an expensive card.  It may be worth upgrading to a new laptop. Would you recommend another type of video board for the E1705? Suggestions please.

The video RAM is on the video card, which can be replaced.  If you want a reliable card, get the ATI X1400 - not the nVidia card.
