HDMI display port under Windows 7

I have a Dell M4600, and it has a HDMI port. Yet when I connect this port to my TV, it's not detected and I can't get the display to recognize it.

Is there some driver or other patch I need to get the HDMI port working?

Don't forget to set the tv to the hdmi input. Use the remote to select hdmi (1) or hdmi 2 etc. Also select external monitor on the laptop in Screen Resolution. Don't use any converter cable and don't use the display port. Use the hdmi port on the back of the laptop with a hdmi to hdmi cable.

See your manual or windows Help for instructions on connecting a tv.

Thanks, I had already made sure the TV was on the correct HDMI port. I bought the computer used, so I don't have any manuals, and I was thinking that it probably needs a driver, since several other of the features of the HW are not supported by the OS either. Such as the fingerprint scanner, the OS doesn't recognize that device either.

When I go into the display manager, it sais there are no other devices other than a default VGA screen which is the laptop itself.

Does Dell make a driver "pack" for this, which has the actual drivers for the physical HW, or it it normal for Windows to not recognize these devices until after drivers are installed?
