How can I check USB port speed?

Is there any way I could confirm USB speed on my Inspiron 700M. I never bothered about it before, but I feel that transfer speeds do not represent the hi-speed capabilities. So I want to check them. I have creative 512mb hi-speed mp3/key with me & another new Dell E1405 (Duo) if required. If anyone has clue, what speeds should I get for mp3 trnasfer to this Creative model? Please guide me anything about any software or so to check actual speeds of these USB ports on 700M.

if you don't get a warning balloon telling you your port can function faster when you plug in an usb2 device then the port is using usb2.

the actual data transfer can vary in the real world from the advertised 480Mhbps because of cpu usage.
