How can I force a BIOS Flash?

Hi Anyone,

I have a dell inspiron 1545 laptop whose battery doesn't charge anymore due to which I cannot update my BIOS. I have already tried it doing through a bootable usb flash drive but it's giving me the same error 'battery is lower than 10%' which it gave me when I try to run the setup file directly. I am actually trying to create a virtual environment on my laptop and can install successfully the Vmware worsktation but whenever I try to create a virtual machine it gives me the 64 bit non compatibility issue, whereas the OS installed on my machine is Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

So I thought that there might be some virtualization settings in my BIOS which I need to turn on but then when I checked it there is no as such settings which could be due to the fact that my BIOS version is old (or I would say the one I got it originally from dell).

Can anyone please be able to help that whether or not I can update the BIOS without a battery? I would highly appreciate anybody who can advise me on this.

Thanks

Hi alok20,

Unfortunately there is no way to update the BIOS without the battery.

Also, to check if the CPU supports virtualization, please provide the processor information.

  • Press ‘Windows’ key + R on ‘Desktop’ screen
  • Type ‘devmgmt.msc’ in run box and press ‘Enter’
  • Click > sign next to ‘Processors’ to expand the options.

Keep me posted with the information. I will be glad to assist you further.

You likely do not need a BIOS update.  If your CPU doesn't support VT (virtualization), it's a CPU upgrade you need - not a BIOS update.

Hi Kuldeep M,

Thanks for your reply. Below is the processor information you have asked for. Also I have attached the screenshots of my error which I get it when I try to create a virtual machine through Vmware workstation 9. I have tried different version of the Vmware but doesn't make any difference. So could you please be able to advise me whether or not my processors support the Virtualization and also if possible for you to help me with my Vmware issue?

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 DUO CPU T6500 @ 2.10GHZ

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 DUO CPU T6500 @ 2.10GHZ

This error comes up when I try to create a virtual machine.

This one comes up when I goes further after getting the first error and try to turn on my virtual machine.

And this is the final error.

I will really appreciate your help if you can help me with my vmware issue as I have been struggling for the past few days to get this working.

Thanks

Your CPU does not support VT -- see

http://ark.intel.com/products/39311/

You will need to upgrade the processor if you want to run the virtualization software, assuming one of the supported CPUs for this system will support it.

It would help if you had bothered reading the specs on your CPU

and what does it say about vt-x???? NO
