Inspiron 15 3542 nvidia driver problem for windows 10

I have made a clean installation of windows 10 on my Inspiron 15 3542. Download all the drivers for windows 10 from dell website and install successfully. However, the driver file for nvidia (downloads.dell.com/.../Video_Driver_67M1D_WN32_10.18.13.5324_A00.EXE) seems corrupted. I have downloaded this file multiple times, it shows a file size about 415MB, but when I am extracting the same in my PC, the folder size shows a mere 138MB only.

Do anybody have tried install this driver file? Was it a successful installation?

Hi,

I just downloaded that file twice (on my work and personal systems) to test it and in both instances it was ~ 415 mb in size.  What happens when you try to install the driver, are you receiving an error?

Hi,

Thank you very much for your effort.

After download the file, it shows 415 MB each time. But when I have tried install the driver, the error message comes as like it can't able to find some critical file and hence can't proceed with installation and exits.

When I have tried to extract that 415 mb file, the extracted folder size shows about 138 mb. Logically the extracted folder size should be larger. So, I guess that file might be corrupted.

Did you extracted that 415 mb file after download? What size it showed?

Thanks again for your effort.

Hello,

When I downloaded the file it came down as an executable file, and I didn't need to extract it.   It won't run on my system since I don't have the appropriate hardware.   I'll contact the team that handles the support downloads and have them look into it.

You may want to search on the Dell FTP site and see if you can locate the file directly.

Hi,

Yes, it's an executable file, and I guess it will run on any machine (whether you have the hardware or not, I have tested on my win 7 PC). Just double-click and it will show two option - #1) Install and #2) Extract. Could you please extract and let me know the extracted folder size?

Thanks for your effort.

The driver folder is 128 mb.   What happens when you attempt to install the driver?

Yes, the same as mine. Do you think it's okay when you extract a 415 mb executable file and gets only 128 mb? I think this particular file is corrupted.

When I attempted to install, the installer quits, after giving a message that it can/t able to find some files. Do you need the exact screenshot for further diagnosis?

I've reported an issue with the file and page so we'll see if there are any problems with the file.  It's been up for nearly 2 months at this point so if the file itself were corrupted we'd have heard feedback from customers.  Does the error message list which files are missing?   Did you try the driver directly from the GPU manufacturer?

I am  sorry, I forgot to attach the error log file in my last message. Here is it.

Thanks.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your understanding and report the issue. But, do we get any notification here if Dell update that driver file?

The error message doesn't list any missing file on screen, but it produces a log file that might be helpful to diagnosis the issue. Please find attached the log file.

I didn't try driver from GPU manufacturer directly, as I think Dell has customized the driver as there is another GPU (Intel) on the system that works simultaneously with nvidia. So, direct driver from GPU manufacturer may create problems in future, I think.

The NVMUP executable that seems to be causing the error is the nvidia installer package.  Try going into device manager and completely deleting any nvidia graphics drivers that are on the system, then run the installation package again to see if it works.

Make sure you have enough memory space available to run the installer package, and that there are no other applications running in the background.

Lastly, do you have the 820M or 840M Nvidia card on your system?

Also, which version of Windows did you have on the system originally?  Win 7 or Win 8.1?   32-bit or 64-bit?

Hi,

#1) I made a clean installation of windows 10, and then tried to install this driver. But fails each time. So there is no question of having any previous version of nvidia driver on the system.

#2) This system has 4GB memory, and no major software program installed except o/s. So I think this memory is enough to run the installer.

#3) I am not sure about the exact card, 820M or 840M.

#4) The system came with Ubuntu, not sure if it was 32 bit or 64 bit.

While checking on Dell product Support website providing my laptop's Service Tag, it shows 'Your device is ready for an upgrade'. In addition, I have able to install all the drivers successfully except nvidia.

Thanks.

Hi Jessy,

Yes, my system has both the cards - intel and nvidia, to do the graphics job simultaneously.

Earlier I installed windows 7, and was able to install both the drivers successfully, and they worked without any error.

Thanks.
