Inspiron 1525 Overheating like anything
This has been occurring for over an year. Whenever I play a game(like Counter Strike/Burnout Paradise/CoD4), it overheats to 83-85C(and then promptly switches off). Normal temp hovers around 65C(with normal programs running, like Adobe Reader). When I am not running anything and have just switched the laptop on, temp's around 45-53C.Overheating to 83-85C sometimes occurs even when I am surfing the Internet, while playing music alongside. Again, this is followed by the usual switch off. I don't know what's wrong with this. Any help is appreciated.

Sorry to hear this. My old(er) dell dimension runs around 62c-65c when sitting idly, or so it looks. It's either 1 of two things or 2 of 3 things...hmmm...
You might have a lot of background programs and services running in the background that you don't even know about.
Don't know what type of Windows your running but if it's Windows 7 or earlier, go to the Start button and then "Run" Click on Run and type "msconfig " (No Quotes) in the text box. This will open up Microsoft's System Configuration Utility. Go over to the Startup Tab and click it. This Will show you all the programs that are running when Windows starts. Most will probably be antivirus programs and Nvidia video card helpers, Quicktime and Java automatic update scripts. You really don't need anything checked to start Windows. It could all be started manually later. But maybe you want those automatic updates notices from Java or you have a anti malware program you want to start automatically every-time Windows starts. Leave it checked. If you are not sure you could poke through the Command and location descriptions to try and get an idea what the program is or just Google the Startup Items Name. This should tell you exactly what the program is.
Another thing that could be doing this is a Service that you (or Windows) have set up to run automatically. It's like programs in Msconfig but some services are needed to run so Windows can run properly and for certain features to run on windows. (Like Printing and Networking) .
I doubt that's what is making your computer run hot though.
The only other thing I can think of offhand is a blocked cooling fan. This happens but..the best way to fix this if you are a little technically inclined is to go over to Youtube and type the name and model of your computer in the search along with "Repair fan" or "Replace fan" or "Fix cooling fan" or something similar. I found dozens of videos on how to disassemble and repair my older Dell Inspiron.
Hope this helps..or pass it on to some one who could use it. Sorry I didn't see this sooner.
An automatic "easier" way to do this is to download a program called StartupLite and run it. It's free. It does basically the same thing but I'd rather see myself what is being turned off and StartupLite doesn't detect everything
