Inspiron 1545 Control Button shortcuts firing at random
So, I've had this problem pretty much since I got the laptop in February. The keyboard will act as if the control key is pressed when I'm not pressing it. For instance, if I'm typing a web address in Firefox, a new tab will randomly open when I hit "T" or history window opens with "H". Then the problem will go away and come back again at random. I've not been able to detect and sort of pattern to determine if it's a software or hardware issue. It's maddening! The only solution Best Buy was able to give me was to send in my laptop. However, I use my laptop for work so I really cannot give it up for an extended period of time. Is there anyway to remap or disable Vista's hotkeys? Any suggestions of hardware fixes to the keyboard itself? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Ok - I just used the chat function to have them fix this. The problem is with the mouse/touchpad. They deleted the driver and reinstalled a new one: R258945
I dont know if you can just update the driver or if you actually have to uninstall the bad one first. Hope that helps. The problem was MADDENING!

I also have this problem with my Inspiron. It has become so annoying that I have resorted to using another keyboard with my laptop. The most fustrating thing is not being able to determine a pattern of when it does and doesn't happen; it appears to be completely random. I would really appreciate any advice on how to solve this problem.

I did the Dell online chat last night, and they were able to fix my problem quickly. He did an update or patch for it. So far, I have not had any keyboard problems. Hope you get yours fixed!

I am sorry. I was only half way paying attention to what the technician was doing on my screen. He just told me he updated my system.

Installed the update a couple of days ago and have not yet seen the problem return. Did not need to uninstall, just upgraded. Thank God. Here's the link for download if anyone else needs to update: http://ftp.dell.com/input/R258945.exe

You will need to update your touchpad drivers. Go to: http://ftp.dell.com/input/R258945.exe No need to disable shortcuts. After I installed the new driver, I have not once seen the problem return. Hopefully this fixes your similar issue as well. Good luck.
