Inspiron 2650 and Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo doesn't work
I have a Inspiron 2650 running under Windows XP and want to use a wireless Logitech keyboard/mouse combo (MX 3100). On both a HP and Toshiba notebook, I just had to plug in the receiver's USB plug, and got at least basic function. On the Inspiron, plugging in the USB leads to nothing. The plug'n'play function recognizes receiver, keyboard and mouse, but neither keyboard nor mouse is working. Installing the Logitech software recognizes the mouse, but not the keyboard. Neither keyboard nor mouse work in any case.
An older wireless Logitech mouse, plugged into the PS/2 port, works without problems.
Plugging the PS/2 plug of the MX 3100 in gives very erratic mouse function, with erratic cursor movement and constant right click.
An older wireless Logitech keyboard/mouse combo does not work either.
Disabling the Synaptics Touchpad turns off the touchpad, but doesn't activate the external mouse or keyboard.
Would removing the Synaptics Touchpad software help? Would the touchpad still be working in this case if I unplug the receiver? I want to use the computer both at home with the MX 3100 and while not at home with the touchpad.
