Inspiron 3200 - need help to replace modem with network adapter
Hi,
I have an Inspiron 3200 D300XT. I see that it has 2 cards on the side, one is for playing DVD's and the other is a fax/modem. I have an ethernet wire with an RJ45 connector that I used for an old computer. I would like to set up the laptop for my young grandchildren to go online, but there is no connection on the laptop. Can someone tell me the appropriate card to purchase so that I can connect the laptop?
Thanks in advance for your help.

You may be able to use a mini PCI internal card, but finding a compatible one with drivers for a system this old could prove a nightmare.

There are two pcmcia sockets on the lefthand side of the computer toward the back.
With any wireless card (which would have to be PCMCIA - you can't use an internal one) be absolutely sure you have driver support - many new cards aren't supported by anything older than Windows 2000, so if you're running a DOS-based Windows (95/98/ME) you may be out of luck.

Thanks, EJN, you have been very helpful. I will stick with the wired connection - in the end, it will be easier.
Unfortunately they do not have the card you suggested in stock. Would you please tell me if this one will do?:emotion-7:
