Inspiron N5110 Keyboard Malfunction and Crash
Hello,
So I've had this laptop for just over a year now and about 4 months ago my computer began to crash if there was too much pressure on the back of it. So I took out the battery, ram, and keyboard to investigate, but found nothing. It didn't happen after that for a few months so I though it might have resolved itself. Recently what's begun to happen is out of nowhere my keyboard starts to malfunction. I will try and type one letter and it begins entering in random letters and numbers. Shortly after the keyboard malfunctions the computer just shuts off. I have no idea what to do, or what could be causing this. Is there any solution that I would be able to fix from home? I am semi-experienced with computer hardware repair, but I've never encountered this before and I just want to be cautious before doing anything. Thanks for any help!

Replacing the mainboard yourself is not impossible especially if you already have some knowledge of hardware repair.

So, while I was doing research on this problem, I found a post that recommended I "reset the motherboard"

I tried this, and now the computer will not even start up. Every few times I push the power button it may light up, and it sounds like the computer is starting up, but then it shuts off again, before the screen even turns on.

I'd do a full diagnostic first. Boot to F12 and choose diagnostics. Post back with results.

I tried doing that a few times, but it still doesn't seem to want to power on. Do you think it's a serious problem with the motherboard?

That refers to draining the residual power. Unplug the power adapter, remove battery and all external devices. Press power button for 30 secs. Reconnect everything and boot up. Boot to F12 and do the diagnostic

Ok, based on that, it would be the mainboard. I'm almost 100% sure that the HDD is fine, based on the symptoms of the computer. How much does replacing the mainboard usually cost?? I presume this would be a task that would have to be done by a tech, and not me.

If it's refusing to power on then it could be power jack or mainboard failure.
If it's refusing to boot then it could be failed HDD.
Does the light on the AC adapter stay lit when you plug it into the laptop? If not then it could be a failed power jack or mainboard. If replacing the power jack doesn't solve the problem then the mainboard needs replacing.
If the adapter light remains lit when plugged into laptop but still refuses to power up then replace mainboard.
If the system powers up but refuses to boot then try re-seating the HDD and RAM.
