Is it possible

I have a Dell 1558 500 gig Drive/ 8GB Memory is it possible to Do a complete windows back up-- install a (NEW) 750 gig drive load re-install win7 from my Dell Disk -then restore my back up?

The reason I ask is I bought Ez-gig to migrate the drive - but it gives me an error of not being able to copy do to drives having different block sizes.

Checking with the Ez-gig support they say " Dell" factory setup with partion's is to blame and they have no fix--
