I have had the same problem. I am not sure if it is because I need to get used to the keyboard, or if it is just faulty. (My right shift key and space bar seem to be the worst!) However, if I press directly in the center of the key, being all precise and whatnot, then the key works for me every time, no matter what application I am in.

As far as the cursor. Are you sure that your hands are not touching the touch pad while typing? I noticed last night that it had moved some while I was typing, but then I noticed my hands were moving on the touch pad.

No possibility of my hand touching the touchpad, I ruled that out.

i sort of had the same problem with my inspiron 1520,,,that is the main reason i sold it. the guy that bought it seems to be happy with it...at least i did not get any response back from him...i was also told that my hand was touching the touchpad,,,,,

'

also,  i hated the 1200 x800 resolution...never again...it seems that a lot of laptop makers are pushing this worthless resolution..

I have owned FOUR Dell notebooks over the last 5 years, including anInspiron 8000, Inspiron 8200, Inspiron 9300, and finally an XPS M1530.  The first three notebook machines were trouble-free.  Life was wonderful.  All four has touchpads.  But the M1530 is the only one of the four that I've had this keyboard issue with.

I had same problem in 2010 with my Latitude D830 running XP Pro.  Thought there was a touchpad problem ... and in fact had it back in depot repair for an unrelated motherboard problem ... and depot replaced the touchpad.  Problem did not go away with the new touchpad ... so on a whim I checked to see if the keyboard driver was current.  Current driver was dated 2007 ... which predated my Latitude ... but I decided to download it anyway and see if it resolved my problem with my skipping cursor.  It did ... totally.

So recommend if you have a skipping cursor issue ... check your keyboard driver too.  I think the comments about operators inadvertantly touching their touchpad are bogus.

You don't necessarly need to tiuch the keypad to get it to respond. You can adjust the sensitivity in the pad control panel, but the easiest thing is to install TouchFreeze. This utility shuts the pad off whhen you start typing, and turns it back on when you stop. Works very good.

Dropped characters when going on line can occur at the site or possibly a failing modem or router. If everything is OK when typing locally, your machine is OK.
