Laptop battery time

Can anyone tell me how long their 6 cell or 9 cell battery usually lasts.

I have  a Vostro 3500 , and only get 1.5hs with a 6 cell - pretty bad.
I don't want a heavier 9 cell but may have to buy one.

I'm not sure if this is because the laptop is low quality, the battery has gone, or if its normal.
The laptop has not been used a lot - but I know some batteries die early.

The official time for this Vostro battery is around 3-4 hours but these are often exagerated.

Is the lousy 1.5 hours normal for this model?

Cheers

Hi,

Welcome to the Community. Check the below link on Dell Battery Laptop Faq's.

www.dell.com/.../batteries_faq

It depends on how old is the battery. Batteries come with a 1 year warranty, so if its over a year old and its giving about 2 hrs of backup, then its normal.

Thank you.

Thanks for the info.

Mine lasts 1.5hs, using wifi.

I just wondered if it was worth getting a new one... but perhaps not. The laptop is not that used.

Is a 9 Cell much heavier?

Thanks

Hi,

If you get 1.5hrs on it means it still has life. Check your Battery Meter how your battery is performing. Yes the 9 cell batteries are heavier than the 6 cell.

Thank you.

Hi,

A new 6 cell should give you 2-3 hrs of backup. This depends on alot of factors, from what type of applications you are using, the brightness on the computer, memory, processors etc. Check for a battery icon on the left side bottom corner, and click on it to bring up the battery meter.

Thank you.
