Run the keyboard diagnostic from the resource cd. That will determine whether its strictly a windows problem (and therefore software related) or an actual hardware failure.
Ok... i even cleaned my entire system, formatted C: and re-installed windows XP (after a suggestion from customer care).
This time, i see a cursor in the middle of the screen at start-up... but the touchpad STILL ISN'T working, nor does an external mouse help. Just been using the keyboard to navigate.

What can possibly be the problem?

Hi,
You may need a motherboard, around $130 2nd hand or less on Ebay. Have you run the Diags ?
