NO cursor and touchpad not responding...

I have an INSPIRON 3800.

This afternoon, the computer rebooted by itself for some reason unknown to me and then when it loaded windows (2000)... there was NO cursor!!! The touchpad and mouse buttons are doing nothing (coz there's NO cursor on screen). Everything else is working just fine, wireless... internet etc.

I've tried everything... control panel - mouse, even tried attaching another mouse to the port, but its not even reading that.

Someone plz help... it's a real pain navigating a computer without a mouse.

Thanks in advance.

Run the keyboard diagnostic from the resource cd. That will determine whether its strictly a windows problem (and therefore software related) or an actual hardware failure.

Ok... i even cleaned my entire system, formatted C: and re-installed windows XP (after a suggestion from customer care).

This time, i see a cursor in the middle of the screen at start-up... but the touchpad STILL ISN'T working, nor does an external mouse help. Just been using the keyboard to navigate.

What can possibly be the problem?

Hi,

You may need a motherboard, around $130    2nd hand or less on Ebay. Have you run the Diags ?
