On-screen display missing for volume

Inspiron 8600

For some reason my on-screen display has disappeared for my volume control. The small speaker icon is still present in the tray and shows mute on/off, but the on-screen display no longer pops up.

Does anyone know what program controls the on-screen display for volume?  Like t get it working again.

Try resetting the Dell Quickset, it's a small blue Q with a yellow S on top in the status bar (next to the clock) left click on it once and click on adjust power management.

I believe you meant {right} click, right?

Thanks, but the on-screen volume control is set to "on" but it isn't displaying (either with the volume buttons or by using {fctn} {PgUp}{PgDn}.

I meant exactly as it's shown in the post I made previously.

Sorry, don't get it.
What does setting up power management have to do with the on-scrren display for the volume control? (BTW, I did go through power management and it didn't fix the on-screen volume control).

You may think it's totally unrelated but it's not.... I found the problem from this forum, I also thought... the sajme as you... what does it have to do with the speaker icon, but I changed the setting to max performance and the icon came back....

Ah, that's it.
It's not the speaker icon, it's the on-screen volume meter display (this can be en/disabled when you right click QS).

It's shows that it's currentl enabled, but does not show on the LCD display. No problem with the speaker icon (and it does reflect the mute/non-mute state).

My guess is that it was disabled with a driver upgrade (but don't know which one as I have no idea when it disappeared.)

My on-screen display still works, but not the actual volume up/dn buttons.  The mute button still works, and all other options to controll volume still work, but I want this feature back! any tips? Thanks.
