Use of Filter Keys
I
've read the top dozen or so posts regarding filter keys--all, or most, of which deal with the same problem I had yesterday. With a little investigation I was able to figure out how to get into Accessibility Options and turn off the keyboard shortcut so I won't have them go on again when I lean on the right-hand Enter key for 8 seconds. However, I'm still mystified as to why anyone would want to use filter keys. I've read and re-read the info in Accessibility Options explaining what filter keys do. And yet those explanations, as clear as they seem in theory, don't seem to have anything to do with what happened to my mouse/keypad functions once the keys came on. Can anyone explain why I might want my mouse wheel to automatically Select every line I scrolled over? Or of what use it is to click on one icon in My Documents and have ALL of them get highlighted so that when I try to open just one document, they all open? Or have the dropdown menu in File in WORD altered so I didn't have SAVE and then SAVE AS but SAVE ALL and then SAVE AS? On and on the list goes. I would be very grateful for any light anyone can shed on this--to me, anyway--mysterious and seemingly less than useless option.

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you until now. Very busy here. Will do my best to give you answer now.
Left click on start in your task bar at the bottom of the screen.
Left click on control panel.
Open "Accessibility Options." Left click the tab that at the top that says "keyboard."Half way down you ought to see "Filter Keys." Uncheck the box that says "Use Filter Keys." Do this by left clicking. The Check in the box should disappear. Once you do that you shouldn't have any more problems with these pain-in-the-neck things.
If this doesn't work, let me know.
