From what's available from Dell, there are no drivers for the ATI card for Windows 2000, only XP. The Intel drivers won't work since you don't have the Intel adapter. Unless you can find drivers for the ATI card for Windows 2000 (perhaps from the ATI website) I don't think you'll be able to use that laptop properly with Windows 2000. The computer will still work but without proper drivers you'll get poor performance from it.

You have a few options to choose from...

You can download an older ATi Mobility Radeon X300 driver from Dell ("click here" - release date: 8/1/2005)...

Or download an optimized (for IQ & stability) Omega ATi Catalyst 7.1 driver (modified to include Radeon Mobility support) that many gamers prefer... ("click here" and the driver download is "here" - release date: Jan 14, 2007).

DriverHeaven has a "DH Mod tool" ("click here") that "I believe" should work for Win2k, also. It can modify the latest "Desktop" ATi Catalyst drivers to install on your laptop...

Hi Rod,

The older version of "ATi Mobility Radeon X300" installation failed with the following error:

"Setup was unable to complete the installation. Try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running the setup."

However, the "Radeon Omega Drivers 3.8.330 (Catalyst 7.1)" did the trick. I downloaded the Omega driver from "http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati/win2k_xp.php". After the installation, I restarted the laptop. Now the screen looks great.

Thanks a lot,

Regards,
Samy
