Vostro 3550 Boot Problem - Please help!
Dear all,
I have encountered a problem when booting my Vostro 3550. There is the initial display of Vostro logo, then the screen goes black and remains black. I can access Setup via F2 but not Boot Options via F12.
I tried draining the battery, but the problem persisted.
I also tried the system test (booting while holding down the Fn key). The test has returned the following error message:
Error code: 2000-0142
Validation: 61083
Hard Drive0 - S/N J3360081GREG5C self-test unsuccessful. Status = 7.
Does this mean the hard drive is faulty? I am running Windows 7 Professional, by the way.

Hope you are all well.
Does anyone have any suggestion? I just tried contacting Dell Support, but unfortunately the warranty had already expired.

Yes, your hard drive has indeed failed- you will need a new, 2.5" SATA hard drive and the recovery media you hopefully made when you received the system.
