Vostro 3560 - fan constantly working

I recently re-installed win7 on my laptop, and since then fan has been working constantly, even when the CPU is very low. Does anyone have any idea what may have caused this or how to rectify the matter? The noise is awfully distracting..!

Thank you for your help,

Cattree

Hi Cattree,

Fan spinning on Dell Vostro 3560 constantly depending on the load is normal. However, if the sound exceeds normal level then there could be a hardware/ software failure:

Request you to use the below link and update BIOS:

http://dell.to/10WlpXA

You may also run a hardware diagnostics (ePSA) to check for a hardware failure:

(1) Press the power button and keep tapping F12 key at the Dell logo.

(2) The BIOS boot Menu appears

(3) Use the keyboard up and down arrow keys to select Diagnostics and press on the Enter key.

(4) Now tap the esc key to select a specific device to test.

(5) Select CPU Fan and Rear Fan one by one.

(6) Make a note of the error code that gets displayed (if any).

Do reply with your findings.

Hi Kiran,

Thank you for your reply. I downloaded the BIOS file but did not update, since A13 is already installed.

I ran the diagnostic for the CPU Fan and no error codes were displayed. However, I didn't see an option selection for Rear Fan - where would it be located?

Thanks,

Cattree

Hi Cattree,

The diagnostics runs Fan test which checks on all known fans in the system. The diagnostic will select the fans and set them to HIGH/LOW/OFF to determine whether they are functioning within proper RPM tolerances. Depending on the system, fans will have various names, such as CPU Fan, Processor Fan, GPU Fan, Chassis Fan, Rear Fan or Video Fan.

This means all fans were checked and are running normally.

Request you to clean air vents with a can of compressed air.

Then you may also use the below link to update video drivers by selecting the right operating system:

Do reply with your findings.

Just an update.... the air vents are clean, video drives are up to date, and the fan is still working, nearly all the time. Any other ideas, or should I just accept that this machine is a very loud one? I've gotten somewhat used to the never ending noise, but I still don't know if it should be doing it normally.
