Has the card reader ever worked with this notebook, if so when did it stop working?

If you haven't already I suggest running diagnostics and see if they can determine if there is a problem with the reader.  Please read this for more information on running diagnostics.

What does Disk Management read when checking on the reader.  Press the Windows Key with the X key together and select disk management from the menu.  Once Disk Manager is open do it show the card reader?

Place a known good SD card in the reader and then check Disk Manager again and is there a change.  Try refreshing disk manager, click on Actions and then refresh, is there a difference.

Please reply with the results of the diagnostics and if the card reader is detected in disk manager.

I'm having this same issue on the same laptop.

Diagnostics reports that everything is running correctly.  I can see the device listed in device manager as Realtek PCIE Cardreader

Disk Manager shows nothing, it only list the SSD drive.

I have the exact same issue.

cycled through all drivers i can to no avail.

PLUS, my service tag is not being recognised so i cant even run any of the diagnositics, contact support or anything.

Pretty much forced to return this it seems...

Brand new Dell XPS 9343 with same Card Reader issues.

On rare occasions reinstalling Realtek CardReader Driver v6.3.9600.21261 (A00) October 24, 2014 will bring back the CardReader until I have to restart, reboot or change users. This is with multiple SDCards to try with, all that work in my camera and cellphones and my girlfriend's Toshiba laptop without issue.

Hardware Diagnostics and Device Manager both do not recognize CardReader when it stops working.

When I can get it to work Device Manager does list it and Hardware Diagnostics will not report an issue.

It is now a month later (May 21, 2015) and I am still having intermittent issues with the SDCard reader that occurs with multiple SDCards that all work fine in other computers.

Is this a known defective issue with the new Dell XPS 9343s?

If so I hope you find this forum BEFORE you buy one so that you don't get stuck with the same issue the rest of us are seeing with this not so high quality laptop.

Hello,

I have the exact same issue.

Brand new XPS 13 9343.

Tried to update the driver (Realtek from dell website / october 2014) but nothing changes.

Realtek card is in the device manager but does not appear in the disk manager.

Of course I tried with several working SD cards I can read with my desktop.

Thank you for any advice :-)

Terry B -- could you look further into this issue?  There is clearly a problem here.

Hello,

In my case a Dell technician had to come to replace the SD card reader. Now it's working !

Same issue here. It was working fine up until one of the updates.

I'll try this when I get home. Otherwise will have to get a technician out, I would presume.

Update: I just updated system bios to A04 (was released on Mon, May 25th) and SD card reader is now working again.
