From what I understand the Soundblaster "upgrade" is only on the software side, unlocking features in the drivers not accessible otherwise.

I might have this wrong but thats what I _think_ from browsing other forums.

So, you will not be able to hook up the laptop to a 5.1 system connecting 3.5mm cables (analogue) but there might be support for hooking up to a digital decoder reciever through an spdif output (something that myself and other users have reported as extremely buggy, so beware).

Cheers

It's true that the Audigy Advanced HD is strictly a software solution.  If you read further in any forum you'll also learn spending $25 on this software is a complete waste of money.  As the fad goes, buy a Dell D/Dock on eBay for roughly $68 and spend the money and buy an X-Fi Xtreme Sound Card an adding it to the open PCI Slot in the D/Dock.

Not only will you achieve brilliant sound you getting an incredible array of additional I/O Ports!  Plus in order to achieve 5.1 (or more) Surround Sound you'll have to use another means other than the onboard audio of the XPS M1710 sad to say.  For the money one would think you get some perks to go along with your well spent money, NOT!  :smileymad:

Good Luck and happy hunting though. :smileyvery-happy:
