inspiron 15 touchpad going crazy

For quite some time now the cursor on my laptop has been going wild.  It seems as if it is randomly clicking all over the screen.  While its doing this I am unable click on anything. It also creates a circular area in place of the cursor that I am sometimes able to click and drag using the touchscreen, and if I am bale to do this it will go away a go back to working properly for a while.  I also seem to be able to fi it sometimes by moving the screen back and forth.  If all of this fails closing the laptop until it sleeps and then restarting a few times seems to work.  In the time it took me to type this I have had to restart twice.

PLEASE HELP

Please list Dell model number and version of windows. Ex: Dell Inspiron 3543, windows 10

If you don't know, type msinfo32 onto the search box, and then stroll down to System Model. You should see the exact model number. In the meantime, I'd suggest you run the diagnostic tool to check the hardware on the system by following the steps below:

1. Power off the system. Remove all peripherals except AC adapter

2. Power on system, quickly start tapping the F12 continuously until you see Preparing one time boot menu in the top right corner of the screen. In the boot menu, stroll down to Diagnostic and then click on it.  After quick tests, click on Hard drive, and select Thorough Test Mode. Report back any error code

If there's no error code, please verify if there's a Dell Touchpad listed in device Manager.

Type Device Manager onto search box, stroll down to Mice And Other Pointed Devices, and then expand it.
