memory will only work in DIMM B after upgrading memory dell d620

I had a 1 gb memory stick in DIMM A and a 512 Stick in dimm B pc4200 533. computer recognized them both fine. I got a new pc5300 2gb 667 stick when i put it in DIMM A and the Exsisting 1gb stick in DIMM B the computer would not boot up, just flasing lights in the cap locks for about 10 seconds then the computer would shut off. The only way I can get the computer to boot up is with the new stick in DIMM B alone. The other sticks will get recognized also in DIMM B alone. But the computer wont boot up with anything in DIMM A. It worked just fine before i put the new memory in. If anybody has had this similar problem and has a solution please let me know.

Thanks, Ken

I have a D620 which I keep at work. I have 3GB in it and it works fine. I don't remember what speed of RAM I have in it.

I do know that the second stick 2GB came from Crucial.

Does it work with BOTH original sticks in their original spots? It's likely the A socket is either damaged or the supporting components have been damaged. A static charge can damage system board components as well as the memory modules. At least the 2GB works in socket B, so you don't have to buy a new laptop.

got it fixed thanks for the help. It was a sticker from the component by it that had slid and was overlaping into the memory slot just enough
