5490 HDD + SSD ?

Hello,

Got a 5490 with HDD, opened it up to put a SSD PCIe m.2 for a dual boot Win/Linux, they had the brightest idea ever to put the m.2 slot in the same place of the HDD, like it could have been room for both, but they made sure it doesn't, then a completely useless WWAN slot just above (galactic facepalm).

Also tried booting from SD Card with no avail, funniest part is that there is a page on Dell website explaining how to boot from SD, then after some failed attempts I search for more info and see on same website that Dell doesn't handle booting from SD, lmao.

Only got surprises, and not good ones.

Does Dell know we already are in 2019?

If it wouldn't already be set in the finances of the company I would have totally sent it back quicker than it got here and go to HP.

This is just plain impressive, do Dell engineers try to be the most unefficient by nature or is it a company requirement?

The fact that the M.2 and 2.5” drives occupy the same physical space is indeed unfortunate, but in fairness the WWAN slot isn’t useless, in fact I would bet that far more Latitude customers use WWAN cards than dual hard drives. And while I haven’t performed an exhaustive search, I don’t think anyone else offers a 14” business-class system that supports an M.2 SSD, a 2.5” drive, and a WWAN card all simultaneously either. If you don’t care about WWAN and would’ve therefore preferred the M.2 slot to be placed there in order to allow dual hard drives, then that’s perfectly fair and understandable, but then someone else would probably be complaining that this system doesn’t support WWAN cards like other equivalent systems offered by competitors. You can never satisfy everyone.
