Coin-cell Batteries

Does someone know if there are any pens (manufactured by Dell or another company) [examples: HP or Wacom] that are compatible with the Latitude 5290 2-in-1 that do not use coin-cell batteries? Is pen PN557W the only pen that is compatible with the Latitude 5290 2-in-1? I was working with my pen to try to resolve its top button not working. But, in doing so, I now have the circuit board set on my table, not in the pen and the coin-cell batteries in a storage bag. The AAAA-size battery and nib are unaffected.

@WeirdStrangeWange the system requires a capacitive pen rather than a stylus or other touch device in order for it to work. The PN557W is the recommended stylus for the system although as I understand it Wacom's own version should also work.

Here's a guide to troubleshooting the active pen that should help with your issue - https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/us/en/04/dell-actv-pen-5000-series/dell-actv-pen-pn556w/troubleshooting?guid=guid-4110e162-5f2b-4d27-97eb-7fe536879b48&lang=en-us

Thank you for the message, Alan. I looked at the troubleshooting guide. But, I don’t think that is going to work for me. The circuit board that operates the top button is absent from the pen. I will look at information on Wacom’s pens though to see if any of them satisfy what I am looking for.

@WeirdStrangeWange did you purchase the pen like that?

Was it purchased second hand or did you but it from ourselves?

If purchased from ourselves and separate from the system is it under 1 yr old?

I ordered it through Amazon. I have since ordered a PN579X model, also through Amazon, as it does not use coin-cell batteries. It uses only a AAAA-size battery to power all functions. That is what my father found in the quick start guide when he and I looked at it.

@WeirdStrangeWange that's good to hear you ordered the PN579X, I believe it is more suited to your system than your current stylus pen.

If you are still having problems once it arrives please get back in touch.

I figured that the use of the coin-cell batteries is intended to increase the usage time of the pen by decreasing the load and energy drain for the main battery. Sadly, it did not work out well for me. Incidentally, working with the coin-cell batteries in the PN557W felt close to, if not, as tedious as, working with a battery for a wristwatch. Although I have not personally disassembled wristwatches, my father has done that. As a general rule, after reassembly, the wristwatch either did not function property or it ceased to function. We each now use smartwatches with rechargeable batteries. 😉 Have a great day now, Alan!

I received the new pen yesterday. It works flawlessly from what I can see. The Bluetooth pairing and top button even work — yay!
