E5570 won’t recognize it has a battery

Hello all, my E5570 will only power up with AC adapter (I have a dell 90w).  Bottom right corner shows battery symbol with an X and says 255%.  I looked in devices and it doesn’t find a battery.

So far, I have tried (in no particular order):

Bought a new Dell battery 6mt4t

uninstalled Microsoft ACPI compliant control method battery.

updated windows

unplugged battery, restarted computer with no battery, then shut down and reinstalled battery.

Still no luck.  Any more ideas?  Is the next step to order a new cable that connects battery to computer?  Thanks in advance!

" Is the next step to order a new cable that connects battery to computer "?

Wait a minute there, let make sure before purchasing a brand new AC adapter. First, I suspect this aftermarket Dell battery (6mt4t) isn't a genuine one from Dell. Keep in mind, genuine Dell batteries have these microchips to help people detect counterfeit batteries. Some third parties have taken a microchip from a dead genuine battery and have inserted it into the counterfeit battery.

Now, check the status of AC adapter in the BIOS by following steps below:

1. Power off system

2. Power on system, quickly start tapping F2 key continuously until you see the BIOS menu.

The AC adapter should say it's type( 90W) in the BIOS. If adapter says it's type then most likely this is an issue with the battery. You don't need to purchase a brand new adapter.

Note: Please wiggle adapter's end while checking it in the BIOS. This would help diagnose to see if DC Jack is  damaged.

If AC adapter doesn't say it's type but says Unknown or None then mostly likely it's an issue with adapter, DC Jack or mainboard.

Note: If the adapter isn't detected in BIOS, the computer will continue to receive power but will not charge the battery

Hello thanks for the response.  To be clear, I did not mean I would buy a new AC adapter; rather, I was referring to the little cable that runs through the battery channel.

Diagnostics does not see a battery but it does see “AC adapter 90w”.

I also reset settings on BIOS, no luck.

Any more ideas?  Any more help or idea is greatly appreciated!!

I see now, my aplogies....

I suggest you quickly return the faulty battery to the seller and demand a refund. After, check Dell Batteries and Adapters to see if there's any in stock in link below:

Good luck in your search for a new battery.
